Why multicultural states become prison states

When a multicultural state tries to root out a problem such as Islamic extremist terrorism, the only way to do so indiscriminately is to increase state surveillance and reduce the rights of all citizens equally. Sure, you could target those who "look like" they are from the Islamic world, but this would involve racial profiling and discrimination, which is politically incorrect and, in some cases, illegal. Consequently, your body will be scanned with a cancer-inducing ray and padded down, your thumbprint will be stored, your private data will be searched, your actions will be watched and you will be treated like a stranger in your own land. We all will be. Yet you dare not say the obvious - that, if American citizenship were off limits for Muslims and people from that part of the world, none of this would be necessary.

You can hide this fact, ignore it or dress it up how ever you want. But it remains the truth.

I guess that is the irony of America's liberal multicultural ideal. Essentially, the freedom for everybody and anybody to take part in the system leads to freedom being taken away from anybody and everybody. Is this "ideal" really superior to the idea of an ethnic state?
